First Post by Tuesday, 11:59PM

Now that you have created your very own blog, you are ready to write and publish your first post...

You can begin your first post by introducing yourself and stating what you have liked the most about our English class this year (be positive!). Then, I want you to do some research on the author of A Doll's House. Therefore, you need to provide us with some facts on Henrik Ibsen. Explain how you think the title of the play relates to what the play may be about or how it may even relate to the author. Also, what themes and symbols does the play focus on? This can be done in two paragraphs. Remember, you MUST have minimal grammatical mistakes. Luckily Blogger already has a spell check option incorporated into their system, so use it! Please cite your information because if you do not, then it is plagiarism and you will not receive credit for your work. Simply including the link(s) at the end of your post will do. Also, you are not copying and pasting the information you find. You are paraphrasing!

Want to get creative? Add some pictures and even videos. Just remember that it must be relevant to what you are writing about/discussing.

We are starting the play really soon and you will LOVE it! #trustme

Any questions? Hit the "Student Opinions" button and ask away.

Ibsen was ahead of us...

ps: You do not need to comment on Blogs for this assignment.

Have fun! :)

  2. Hi its Garrick. What I liked most in our English class was that we were able to read so many books that have definitely lengthened my vocabulary. They have also given me a new aspect on the world and they way I view it. I also loved doing group work with all my friends and being able to communicate with them. We have read many stories about war, love, and courage through the year. It really opens my eyes to see the vast world we live in.

The author of "A Doll's House" Henrik Ibsen has had a very interesting life. What's very interesting is that his play "A Doll's House" has very much to do with his family. The mother of the family (in the play) moves away from the family to find out about herself and pursue happiness to her hearts desire. In my opinion this seems ironic compared to his mother in real life, as it has been said that she sacrificed much of her time to take care of the family. It seems that the play is a "mirrored" view of what his mother's life should have been like, or what she should have done.

  5. Hi its Catherine, Some of the things that I enjoy in English class are doing group discussions because you’re able to hear each person’s opinion. Without the group discussions you won’t hear what peoples opinion is and it helps you with talking in front of a class. Also, I think that having an option to do group or pair work is better because it allows you to ask you partner a question with a problem and you both can figure it out together. This also allows you to complete the classwork much faster with little stress.

Henrik Ibsen the author of “A Doll’s House” was born on March 20, 1828 in Skien, Norway. Henrik was the youngest of 5 children, his father was a successful merchant and his mother was a painter, loved going to the theater, and enjoyed played the piano. Ibsen had shown an interest at a young age to become an artist. He spent much of his time as a youth reading, painting and performing magic tricks. At the age of 15, Henrik stopped going to school and went to work, he got a job as an apprentice at an apothecary in Grimstad and spent six years there. In 1849, Henrik wrote his first play Catilina which was modeled off of his great influences which was William Shakespear.

Henrik left Norway after being exiled in 1862 and settled in Italy for a short period of time. While there, he wrote Brand which was a five-act tragedy. In 1868, Henrik went to Germany and wrote A Doll’s House. The main character leaves her family to find her true self, also I believe it could be about an event that had occurred in Ibsen’s life that significantly affected him. The theme of the play would be seeking equal rights in marriage and that women are just as equal as men.
Henrik died on May 23, 1906, Oslo, Norway at age 77

  10. Hi it's Raquel. The stories we get to read in class are interesting and that is one of the things I like about English.

Henrik Ibsen was born on March 20, 1828 in Skien, Norway. He was raised there along with his other four siblings. Ibsen was the oldest of the five. When Henrik was 15, he dropped school and began working as an apprentice in an apothecary in Grimstad. During his free time, he worked on his poetry as well as studying for admission to the University of Christiania.

When Henrik was 23, he was appointed playwright and director of a new theatre at Bergen. This allowed him to write a play every year. In 1862, Ibsen left Norway and settled in Italy. He wrote a play there and soon left to live in Germany in 1868. Here he watched one of his plays be performed for the first time and he soon followed up on it with A Doll's House. He returned to Norway as a literary hero and died there in 1906.

  11. Hey it's Savannah. I would first like to say there are a few things I enjoyed in English class this year. Some of those things are working with other people, also having time in class to just write our thoughts. Next we have is Henrik Ibsen a famous playwriter, born March 20,1828, and passed away May 23,1906 born in Skien, Norway. As a young child people saw theatrical genius in him since his mother was into arts. She played piano, painted, and loved going to the theater. I'm guessing it passed on to him knowing how good of a playwright he was.
One year Ibsen had an encounter with a violinist and theater manager and got offered a job, with that came his fame. His plays launched his career greatly and he then came out with his most famous playwright "A Dolls House". In 1891 Ibsen returned home as a literary hero. Ibsens later works seem to name more self- reflective quality which gives the play even more meaning.

  12. Hey. My name is Nick Kovach, I play soccer for BHS and a club team named Arsenal. I love English class, and i always have. So far this year I have enjoyed the concentration in the class. On to Henrik Ibsen !
Henrik Ibsen was born on March 20, 1828, in Skien, Norway. He was the oldest of 5 children to Knud and Marichen Ibsen. At age 8 years old the family became poverty stricken when his father's business had failed. Soon after the family sold all there things and moved to a small farm outside of town. There Henrik spent a lot of his time getting into magic and reading. When Henrik was 15 he left school and started work as a apprentice in a apothecary for 6 years. Using his spare time, he enjoyed writing poetry and painting. Then in 1849 he wrote his first play Catilina.
In 1862 after writing "Loves Comdey" he settled in Italy for a time where he wrote another play brand which made him famous in Scandanavia. This launched his career greatly. After when he wrote "A Dolls House" in 1879 he became more well known to the world. Later in his years he set way back to Norway. This home was the place in the 1900`s suffering series of strokes until his death 1906. I think his work "A Dolls House" was suppose to relate back to his childhood when he was still trying to work out what he was gonna be in this life.

  13. Hi, it's Danielle Aquino. I have enjoyed the entire class so far this year and am not lying or "kissing up" when I say that this English class has been my favorite out of all the Literature classes I've had so far in my entire education. I have always thought that a person could learn about themselves through stories and teachings (and I have learned a lot about myself thus far because of all the lessons and stories taught in this class).
Henrik Ibsen was born March 20, 1828. His full name is Henrik Johan Ibsen and had been raised in Skien, Norway. He was the oldest of five children, his father was a merchant, and his mother had interest in the arts (which he too took interest in). His family had became poor due to his father's business, at the age of 15 Ibsen stopped his schooling, and worked as an apprentice at an apothecary (where he had impregnated a girl and had never met his son afterwards (but had still supported him)). Ibsen had a wife (not the same girl) and had (another) son. Additionally, Ibsen had been exiled to Italy (but was allowed back to Norway) and had died in Oslo, Norway in March 23, 1906.
I think the title "Doll House" may relate to Ibsen due to the fact that he himself had moved to Germany (after being exiled to Italy) and that fact is similar to the main character in the story (whom had left her family to "soul search" or to find herself).
